Presented by Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office
Benefitting Big City Mountaineers
Please join us to celebrate diversity in our community! Dispatch Radio and The Studio Boulder are thrilled to announce the debut of The Rare Air Talks Speaker Series on May 17th with Luis Benitez and Jamie Logan. The theme is Diversity and Inclusion in the outdoors.
Director, Colorado’s Office of Outdoor Recreation Industry. As Gov. John Hickenlooper’s point man for the state’s $28 billion outdoor recreation economy, Luis Benitez has emerged as a leading national voice on some of the industry’s most pressing issues. On May 17 at The Studio Boulder, Benitez – a former high-altitude mountain guide who has climbed the Seven Summits dozens of times – will address how the industry can become more inclusive to diverse cultures and the LGBTQ community.
Jamie Logan is a pioneer of modern rock climbing in the U.S., having “freed” such classic routes as the Diamond on Colorado’s Long’s Peak. At 71, Logan is pioneering a new kind of path, living as a woman. She calls it her biggest leap of faith yet, in a decades-long career full of daring first ascents. On May 17 at The Studio Boulder, she will share her story on stage for the first time.
Elyse Rylander, founder of OUT There Adventures will join for the evening. Other featured guests Len Necefer, founder of Natives Outdoors; Aisha Weinhold, founder of No Man’s Land Film Festival and Kriste Peoples, founder of the Black Women’s Alliance.
